About the event

Zoom Christmas paint along

Join me from the comfort of your home via Zoom for a 2 hour Christmas themed paint along where we will be painting some shiny baubles on pine tree branches.

We will be looking at how to paint the shine on the baubles with watercolour, and achieve realistic pine branches.

I will take you step- by- step through how to do your drawing and then paint this scene, which you will be able to put your own stamp on.

This is a lovely class to do this time of year to get you into the Christmas spirit, and your finished artwork could even be used to make a great Christmas card design. Take some time out from your busy life to do something fun and relaxing just for you, and create a lovely piece of art. Doing something creative also has the benefit of making us feel good physically and mentally too.

I've been drawing and painting since I was a child and have been teaching art classes for 6 years now. It is one of my absolute joys to pass on my love of creating art to others.

So if you’d like to join me I will be running my online Christmas paint along class class live on Zoom on Friday morning 15th December from my art studio in Hertfordshire, England. If you cannot make the live time you can take part from wherever you are by watching the recording back and/or using the step-by step notes following the class.

Live: Friday 15th December 2021 at 10:30am - 12:30pm (or watch the recording in your own time).

Who the course is aimed at: Adult artists of all abilities (and children aged 13+ years if supervised by an adult at all times) who have tried watercolours before so have some idea how they behave.

During the class, you will cover the following:

  • How to draw the subject
  • How to mix the right colours
  • How to paint the foliage and show the shine on the baubles
  • How to paint shading with watercolour
  • How to put your own stamp on your painting
  • I will talk through the different materials used

What is included:

  • 1 x 2 hour Zoom session
  • Watch the session live and have access to watch the recording following the class*
  • Instructions on how to prepare for the class is sent prior to each session (where required)
  • Step by step teaching notes for each class, emailed following the class
  • Access to the ‘Leila’s Art Group’ Facebook group where you can share your work and interact with other course members in a supportive environment

*You have the option to join live on Zoom from wherever you are or watch the recording anytime during the next 4 weeks.

Quotes from recent students :

'I love Leila's classes, I can honestly say that they are a highlight of my week. So relaxed, encouraging, friendly. If you are thinking about taking up painting (or drawing) I can't recommend her more highly.'

'Thank you for such care and attention and expert teaching. I am amazed at what I have been able to achieve.'

'When I saw the reference photo I couldn’t imagine how I could paint something like that. But thanks to Leila’s instructions ....'

Recommended materials list:

  • Watercolour paper pad (minimum 300 gsm cold pressed/NOT paper). The better the quality the better the results- I'd recommend Langton Prestige, Arches, or St Cuthberts Mill Bockingford paper. I will be using 10 x 14" paper (just bigger than A4).
  • Selection of watercolour paints (either pans or tubes). I’d recommend getting the best you can afford as you notice the difference- Windsor & Newton Professional, Daniel Smith are very good quality. Cheaper starter paints: Arteza, Windsor & Newton Cotman range.
  • White gouache paint (small tube)
  • Mixing palette (built into most watercolour paint tins)
  • Selection of brushes – a large and a small round as a minimum (for example a Daler Rowney size 8 and 2 round, and maybe a larger brush 1/2 inch - 1 inch flat or a 1.8 cm mop)
  • 2 x Water pots (old tall plastic tubs work well for this such as soup tubs!)
  • Masking fluid (either in a bottle using a brush you don’t mind using for it, or needle tip bottle such as Masque pen),
  • Tracing paper
  • Masking tape
  • Paper towels
  • Pencil
  • Rubber
  • Ruler
  • Flat board or surface to tape your paper to (foam board/ wood/ stiff cardboard works, as long as it is flat)
  • A hairdryer to speed up drying (if you have one)

If you need advice about materials, I’m happy to email you my recommendations.

After purchasing this course, you will receive further information on how to prepare for each session. You will need to be able to run or download Zoom on your device.

No part payment is accepted and this course is non-refundable.
